Frederick William Seward (1830-1915)

Frederick W. Seward was a diplomat, journalist, author and a powerful Whig and Republican party political leader. He was the son of William Henry Seward and served as his assistant secretary of state (1861-1869). He became the assistant secretary of state again in 1877 during Rutherford B. Hayes's administration.
