Coxey's Army on the Canal
This photograph shows members of Coxey's Army aboard a boat in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal on their way to Washington, DC. Coxey's Army was a group of unemployed men led by Jacob Coxey who went to Washington in 1894 to petition Congress for jobs, following the economic panic of 1893. The barge on the right belongs to the Consolidation Coal Company.
