William M. Wherry (1836-1918)
William Macky Wherry was a brevet brigadier general of volunteers in the Union Army. Wherry served as aide-de-camp to General Lyon in 1861 and General Schofield in 1862. He earned brevets for Atlanta, Franklin (TN), Nashville, and the Georgia and Tennessee campaigns. Wherry received a Medal of Honor for Wilson's Creek, Missouri (August 1861). He went on to fight in the Spanish-American War.
