Annie Adams (1843-1905)
Annie Adams was one of the first English music hall stars. She was immensely popular as early as the mid 1860s. Adams had a majestic presence, powerful voice, strong personality, and jolly manner. She performed at every music hall in London and toured extensively in the U.S. Adams's gowns were very expensive and it was said that her husband, Henry Wall, waited for her off-stage with pins in his mouth to hem up her velvet dresses and keep them out of the dust.
