Henry Walke (1808-1896)

Henry Walke was a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy. As a young man he sailed around the world and fought in the Mexican War. During the Civil War he served on the Western rivers and was a daring gunboat commander. In 1862 he courageously ran the Confederate batteries at Island #10 and Vicksburg. In 1866 Walke was named commodore and in 1871 rear admiral.
