John G. Walker (1822-1893)

John George Walker was a major general in the Confederate Army. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was brevetted during the Mexican War. Walker was a daring general in the Army of Northern Virginia. Promoted major general in 1862 he was sent to the Trans-Mississippi Department and fought in the Red River Campaign. Walker was then given command of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Although he fled to Mexico at war's end he later returned to become consul general at Bogota, Colombia.
