David S. Wambold (b.1836)
David Wambold was a popular balladist and first appeared as a minstrel performer in 1849. His New York debut was at Hope Chapel in 1853. In 1857 the singer went to Europe where he appeared at St. James Theatre in London. He visited France, Belgium, Prussia, Austria, Hungary, and Italy with Bryant's Minstrels. Wambold then established the San Francisco Minstrels with William Birch, William Bernard, and Charles Backus.
