Elizabeth Crocker, Mrs. D. P. Bowers (1820-1897)

Elizabeth Crocker Bowers was an actress whose father was a clergyman in Connecticut. Crocker debuted at the Park Theatre in New York, in July, 1846, as Amanthis in Elizabeth Inchbald's play, "The Child of Nature" (1788). She married David P. Bowers, also an actor, in 1847. Mrs. Bowers became a great favorite at the Arch Street Theatre in Philadelphia, where she played for several seasons. When her husband died in 1857 she became the manager of the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. Mrs. Bowers made her English debut at age forty-one at Sadler's Wells Theatre as Julia in "The Hunchback."
