Elizabeth Crocker, Mrs. D. P. Bowers (1820-1897)
Elizabeth Crocker Bowers debuted at the Park Theatre in New York, in July, 1846, as Amanthis in Elizabeth Inchbald's play, "The Child of Nature" (1788). She married David P. Bowers, also an actor, in 1847. Mrs. Bowers became a great favorite at the Arch Street Theatre in Philadelphia. When her husband died in 1857 she became the manager of the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. Mrs. Bowers made her London debut at age forty-one at Sadler's Wells Theatre as Julia in "The Hunchback." In this studio portrait she appears in an eighteenth-century costume.
