Eva Brent (b.1842)

Eva Brent was an actress and singer who was born in London. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Travers, one of the most popular "soubrettes" of the English stage. Brent made her debut in October 1857, at Sadler's Wells Theater in London as Amiens in "As You Like It." Brent came to the U.S. in November, 1858, after having married J. W. Allinson, and made her American debut in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1859. She then began a singing career as a "balladiste," or balladeer. Brent is shown here in a carte de visite by Warren of Boston.
