Alice Cary (1820-1871)
Alice Cary, a poet and novelist, was known for her depictions of life in the fictional nineteenth-century American rural town "Clovernook," which was based on her childhood in Ohio. The New York City home of Alice and her sister Phoebe (also a poet) served as a salon for the literary set of the time period.
