Varina Howell, Mrs. Jefferson Davis (1826-1906)

This is Varina Howell Davis, the second wife of Jefferson Davis. After his death she went on to become a writer. Her one important literary work is the two-volume memoir, "Jefferson Davis: Ex-President of the Confederate States of America" (1890). This photograph was taken well after the Civil War.
