Annie Deland was an actress from Georgia. Her stage debut was in Newark, New Jersey, in 1857, as Desdemona in "Othello." Deland worked for Laura Keene for two seasons and then moved on to Wood's Theatre in Cincinnati and De Bar's Theatre in New Orleans. In 1860 she retired from the stage but returned in 1868 costarring with Edwin Forrest at Niblo's Garden. Deland went on to play star roles in New York. The actress appears here with a lace shawl thrown over her head and shoulders. The photograph is from the Sarony study in New York City, circa 1880.
