Minnie Cummings, an actress, playwright, entrepreneur, and reformer, debuted as Juliet in 1877 at Booth's Theatre. She opened "Minnie Cummings' Drawing Room Theatre" in 1878 for a short time. In 1880 Cummings wrote, produced, and starred in "Suspected," at New York's Fifth Avenue Theatre. The actress helped found the Women's Property Protection League and the Actor's Fund. While manager of the New Haven Opera House, she set aside a week's receipts to start a fund for indigent theater people.
