Lina Edwin was a popular nineteenth-century actress and a theater manager. She created a company of her own which performed at Hooley's Opera House in Brooklyn in 1870. In September 1870 Edwin moved to Hope Chapel in New York City, renaming it Lina Edwin's Theatre. Fire destroyed the building in 1872. Edwin poses here in a highly fashionable hat at the Gurney studio in New York, circa 1872.
