Mrs. Grinnell
Mrs. Grinnell was a cyclist. She may have been the mother of the Grinnell children, Hattie and Bennie, who performed in variety shows in the 1870s. The first velocipede (bicycle) appeared on the East Coast in 1868 and in California in 1869. Grinnell poses in short pants on an immobilized bicycle for an unidentified photographer, circa 1869.
