Rose Lisle debuted in 1876 as Mrs. Grainger in "Married in Haste" and as Clara Dart in "The Mighty Dollar" at New York's Wallack's Theatre. The actress did not join a company but played in most of the principal New York theaters (Florence Trenchard at Booth's, Mary Markson at the Park, Mabel Holt as well as Reddy at the National, Violet Eligible at the Standard, Mary Stuart at Niblo's Garden, etc.). In 1886 Lisle starred in "The Sea of Ice" at New York's Grand Opera House and the Third Avenue Theatre, with her usual leading man, Edward Arnott. Here the actress poses in costume at the Howell studio in New York.
