Levi Woodbury (1789-1851)
Levi Woodbury was governor of New Hampshire (1823-24) and then elected to the U.S. Senate (1825-31). Andrew Jackson appointed him secretary of the navy (1831-34) and then secretary of the treasury (1834-41). Woodbury was again elected to the Senate as a Democrat (1841-45) and served until he was appointed Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1845-51). This is a photographic print of a daguerreotype.
