Louisa Young, Mrs. James J. Prior (b.1830)
Louisa Young, who became Mrs. James J. Prior, was an actress from Newark, New Jersey. She made her debut at Shire's Garden in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1846. The actress first appeared in New York as Eliza in "Uncle Tom's Cabin" at the Chatham Theatre on September 12, 1853. Prior was Barnum's most prominent actress in the late 1850's. She was married to the actor James J. Prior (1823-1875) and their daughter, Lulu Prior (b.1854), also became an actress. Louisa Young Prior poses here at the E. and H. T. Anthony studio in New York.
