Blanche Roosevelt (1858-1898)
Blanche Roosevelt was an opera singer and a prolific author. She was the first female American performer to sing Italian opera at Covent Garden, where she shared the principal role of "La Traviata" with the great Adelina Patti. She wrote biographies of Gustave Dore, Elisabeth of Roumania, Victorien Sardou, and Verdi. Her "Life of Gustave Dore" won a prize from the Academie Francaise. Roosevelt also wrote four novels. She poses here in a coat of unusual fabric and a fur boa at the Sarony studio in New York.
