Senator Joseph McCarthy

Over the course of his four-year-long crusade, Joseph McCarthy could be highly emotional. Here he is wiping away tears during a "rally for McCarthy" day in Washington, DC. He saw himself as a warrior against evil. In a highly charged speech given in Wheeling, West Virginia, he described what he called "a final, all-out battle" between Communism and Christianity.
