Actress Mary Cary joined the Boston Museum Theatre in 1865-66. In 1869 Cary went to New York with the Selwyn Company and appeared in "Dora" and "Black-Eyed Susan" at the Fifth Avenue Theatre and Wallack's. Cary remained with Daly's company and in 1871 the "Boston ingenue" played Flora Penfield in Daly's own "Divorce," with a brilliant cast.
