Guiseppe Del Puente (1841-1900)
Guiseppe Del Puente, an operatic baritone, made his professional debut in Naples and his Covent Garden debut in 1873. That same year the artist debuted in "Germont" and "La Traviata" at the New York Academy of Music. Del Puente quickly grew popular in the New York music world, and became a member of the first Metropolitan Opera season (1883-84), singing the part of Valentine in the inaugural performance of "Faust." Del Puente performed in New York until 1895. His best known roles were in "Faust," "Il Trovatore," and "Carmen." The baritone married the mezzo-soprano Helen Dudley Campbell. A youthful and clear-eyed Del Puente poses here at the Mora studio in New York.
