Annie Adams (1843-1905)

Annie Adams, one of the first English music hall stars, was immensely popular as early as the mid 1860s. Adams had a majestic presence, powerful voice, strong personality, and jolly manner. She performed at every music hall in London and toured extensively in the U.S. Adams's gowns cost a fortune and it was said that her husband, Henry Wall, waited for her off-stage with pins in his mouth to hem up her velvet dresses and keep them out of the dust.
