J. S. Bach (1685-1750)
A German organist, Johann Sebastian Bach became one of the most influential Western composers. Working in every musical genre of his day, Bach was the master of polyphonic baroque music. The "Well-Tempered Clavier," "Brandenburg Concertos," and "The Art the Fugue," were his best known secular works, while the "St. John Passion," "Magnificat," and the "St. Matthew Passion" ranked among his greatest sacred compositions. An unidentified artist engraved this fanciful representation of the organist.
