Hector Berlioz (1803-1869)
Louis-Hector Berlioz was a French romantic composer. The experimental "Symphonie Fantastique" was first performed in 1830, written in the composer's highly personal style. Berlioz performed, composed, and conducted across Europe and established himself as an authority on orchestration. As the librarian of the Paris Conservatory he found the time to write criticism, essays, and memoirs. At the bottom of this carte de visite is a musical phrase with autograph and date.
