Frederic Chopin (1810-1849)

Born in Poland, Frederic Francois Chopin was a pianist, teacher, and composer whose lyrical piano works constituted the expressive height of romanticism. A child prodigy, he performed across Europe, then settled in Paris, where he died of tuberculosis at a young age. Chopin's preludes, sonatas, etudes, nocturnes and other forms established the piano as a solo instrument. An unidentified artist created this engraving.
