James Collins did variety sketches and comic songs. In 1868 Collins played Sir Richard Blunt in "The Pie Woman of Bell Yard" at the Bowery Theatre and, in 1869, An Owl in "Dora Bella" at Wood's Museum. Collins teamed up with partner Martha Wren in 1875 and the pair starred in comedies such as "The Sailor's Adventure," "Jack Sheppard," "Through the Rail," and "Eileen Asthore." Fresh-faced, Collins poses in a dapper jacket with a velvet collar at the Wood studio in New York, circa 1870.
