Anton Rubinstein (1829-1894)

Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein was a Russian composer and pianist, rivaled only by Liszt for his flawless piano technique. He made his debut in Moscow at age nine. Rubinstein was admired by Mendelssohn and Chopin, as well as Liszt. He founded the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1872 and directed it for many years. During his lifetime Rubinstein was widely admired as a composer.
