Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

Born in Vienna, Franz Peter Schubert became one of the greatest 19th-century composers of orchestral, chamber, and piano music. He elevated the German lied to a new status. Schubert excelled at rich melody, subtle harmony, and distinctive accompaniments. An unidentified engraver created this likeness.
