Julia Matthews (d.1876)
Julia Mathews, an important English opera bouffe artist, brought her own company from England but never established herself in the U.S. In the 1870s Mathews starred frequently at Wallack's Theatre and was best known for her role in "Girofle-Girofla." Her hat perched high on her head, Matthews poses at the Mora studio in New York, circa 1875.
