Joaquin Miller (1839-1913)
Joaquin Miller (Cincinnatus Hiner Miller) was a poet. After an adventuresome youth in the West, Miller began publishing with his "Specimens" in 1868. Miller was much more popular in England, where his romanticized version of Western life was admired, than in the United States, where it did not ring true. In Europe he caused a stir by wearing chaps and a sombrero everywhere.
