Manton Marble (1835-1917)

Manton Malone Marble was a newspaper editor and publisher. He was editor and owner of the New York "World" newspaper. In 1864 the "World" was the victim of a fraud: it unwittingly published forged communications from President Lincoln. Lincoln had Marble arrested and the "World" was put under military guard. After three days Marble managed to resume publication.
