Clara Vesey was an actress and singer. A half-sister of Emily Soldene, Vesey belonged to Soldene's troupe for many years. In 1874 Vesey appeared as Alfred in the first U.S. production of "Chilperic" at New York's Lyceum Theatre. Marrying a German corn-merchant named Hoffmeister, Vesey retired from the stage at about age thirty. Her daughter, Kate Vesey (b.1883), was also an actress and singer. This carte de visite from the Warren studio is hand tinted - Vesey's cheeks and the trim on her hat are pink, while her jewelry is gold.
