William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863)
William Makepeace Thackeray was an English novelist - and brilliant satirist - as well as a journalist who contributed to "Punch." Thackeray achieved fame with "Vanity Fair" (1848), a satirical novel of the Napoleonic period in England. He toured the U.S. in 1852-53.
