Bayard Taylor (1825-1878)
Taylor was a man of letters. He wrote for newspapers and magazines and published poetry and novels. He was appointed secretary of legation under the U.S. minister to Russia at St. Petersburg in 1862. From 1870 to 1877 Taylor taught German literature at Cornell University. Taylor poses at the Sarony studio in New York.
