Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892)
Alfred Lord Tennyson was a British poet often regarded as the chief representative of the Victorian age in poetry. His famous "Idylls of the King" (1859) was a group of poems on the glory and downfall of King Arthur. Disdained early in the twentieth century, Tennyson is now admired for his technique and his sensuous language. Tennyson became England's poet laureate in 1850.
