S. B. Bean

Sylvanus B. Bean, from Brownfield, Maine, served as a militia sergeant during the so-called Aroostook War of 1839 on the border with Canada. With the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the 11th Maine Volunteer Infantry as first lieutenant. By the end of the Civil War he was a brevet major.
