Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) and Kalulu (d.1874)

Henry Morton Stanley was a British-American journalist and explorer who is famous for his rescue of the Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone and for his travels in the Congo region. Kalulu, an ex-slave acquired during Stanley's first trip, visited the U.S. and Britain but was drowned in 1874 on Stanley's second expedition. The journalist wrote a novel about him, "My Kalulu, Prince, King and Slave."
