John Jay (1745-1829)

John Jay was the first Chief Justice of the United States, a governor of New York State and a U.S. envoy to Spain and England. Jay was also a New York delegate to the Continental Congress. This portrait was engraved in 1863 after a painting by Alonzo Chappel.
