Mrs. Hermann Vezin
In 1863 Mrs. Charles Young, who was born in England, married Hermann Vezin, a well-known American actor and playwright. Mrs. Vezin was an actress with, it was said, a good face for tragedy. She made her U.S. debut in 1857 as Mariana in "The Wife" at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. In 1859 Mrs. Vezin made her first appearance on the English stage as Lady Macbeth at the Surrey Theatre in London. The couple traveled together and produced Westland Marston's "Donna Diana" at the Princess's Theatre in London in 1864. In this photo Mrs. Vezin has wrapped herself in a fur-lined cloak and wears a hat perched atop the flowers in her hair.
