William R. Howell (1846-1890)
William Roe Howell was an early photographer and a contemporary of the more famous Mathew Brady. Princeton students frequently chose Howell as their photographer and he went to the campus several times in the late 1860s and 1870s, setting up a portable shanty as his temporary studio. Howell's actual studio was at 867 & 869 Broadway in New York City.
