John Rogers (1829-1904)
John Rogers' sculpture can be divided into three: the historical, Civil War groups, including Lincoln; the literary and dramatic groups, including scenes from Shakespeare; and the genre sculptures, in which he displays his work as a folk-artist in provincial scenes. Rogers' believed that narrative should be the first consideration in sculpting and that emotion was a natural accompaniment.
