David Wilkie (1785-1841)
Born in Scotland, Sir David Wilkie was a pioneering genre painter and portraitist whose depictions of Scottish peasant life won him much attention when he moved to London in 1805. Wilkie was made painter to King William IV, who knighted him in 1836.
