Henry Alford (1810-1871)

Henry Alford was an English biblical scholar, translator, and poet. The Dean of Canterbury from 1857-71, Alford was best known for his "Greek Testament with Notes." His two-volume "Poetical Works" appeared in London in 1845. At the London Stereoscopic & Photography studio, he poses in an elaborately carved chair, holding his spectacles and a book.
