John Francis Barnett (1837-1916)
John Francis Barnett was a pianist, composer and teacher. His "Symphony in A Minor" (1864) brought him attention as a composer and he produced works for orchestra, strings, and piano. Two cantatas, "The Ancient Mariner" and "Paradise and the Peri," enjoyed great popularity. In 1873 Barnett wrote his master oratorio "The Raising of Lazarus." During these years he was also a professor of piano. In 1883 Barnett completed the unfinished "Symphony in E major" by Schubert from autograph sketches.
