Wilson Barrett (1846-1904)
Wilson Barrett was an English actor, playwright, and manager. In 1879 he introduced Helen Modjeska to London at the Court Theatre. Barrett took over the management of the Princess's Theatre in 1881. Both as producer and actor, he excelled at melodrama. After trips to the U.S. in 1886 and Australia in 1898, Barrett had a great hit in London with "The Sign of the Cross," a religious play (1895).
