Rutland Barrington (1853-1922)
Rutland Barrington was an English baritone best known for his Gilbert and Sullivan roles. At age twenty-two he was discovered by Mrs. Howard Paul and joined her in "The Sorcerer" in 1877. Barrington continued in "HMS Pinafore," "The Pirates of Penzance," "Patience," "The Mikado" (in which he had his greatest success as Pooh-Bah) and others. After 1896 the singer enjoyed great acclaim in musical comedy.
