Sir Wilfrid Lawson, Bart., M.P. (1829-1906)
Wilfrid Lawson was the second Lawson baronet ("Bart.") as well as a member of Parliament, best known for his leadership in a zealous crusade for total abstinence. An extreme radical, he supported the abolition of the House of Lords, disarmament, and disestablishment. In 1900 Lawson lost his seat because of his violent opposition to the Boer War, but in 1903 he was returned. Lawson was a popular man, known for his humor and his topical doggerel.
