Gwendolen Fitzalan-Howard, Marchioness of Bute (d. 1932)
Gwendolen Mary Anne Fitzalan-Howard was the daughter of the 1st Baron Howard of Glossop and Augusta Talbot. In 1872 she married John Patrick Crichton-Stuart (1847-1900), the Third Marquess of Bute. The couple had one daughter and three sons. In 1877, the Marquess commissioned a huge Victorian mansion in the medieval style at Mount Stuart, on the island of Bute, and the family lived in one of the great country houses of Scotland. Fitzalan-Howard poses here on a decorated set, wearing the exaggerated bustle that was the height of fashion in the 1870s.
